50th ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL MAIN PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED

This summer Kuopio Dance Festival Finland celebrates 50 years with fabulous programme and world-class performers. All the way from Australia, Sydney Dance Company arrives to Finland for the first time. Rafael Bonachela, Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company, brings his work ab [Intra] to Kuopio. Tero Saarinen Company´s Third Practice will take its´ Finnish premiere at Kuopio Dance Festival.

Grand Finale from Hofesh Shechter Company (UK) is at once comic, bleak and beautiful, evoking a world at odds with itself, full of anarchic energy and violent comedy. Hofesh Shechter is dancer, choreographer and musician whose choreographic career began in 2003 at Kuopio Dance Festival.

Contemporary dance repertory this year is comprehensive and Hungarian top class dancers will perform their own works. Compagnie Pál Frenák´s LUTTE is a story of everyday struggle, battle and surviving of human being. Established in 1989, Compagnie Pál Frenák is one of the most famous Hungarian contemporary dance companies. Zoltán Grecsó’s and Beatrix Simkó’s duo puts Orpheus’ and Eurydice’s mythos in today’s conditions, giving a special interpretation to this so many times presented love story.

Jacopo Godani together with the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (Germany) comes to Kuopio with an exhilarating triple bill which includes Postgenoma, Echoes from a Restless Soul and High Breed. Wonderful 50th anniversary galas will be held in Kuopio Music Centre and hosted by Jorma Uotinen. Galas include celebration of dance with several pieces and performers. In addition, long term festival Artistic Director Jorma Uotinen, will say goodbye in Au Revoir – gala. Riku Lehtopolku as a follower shall take the throne after Uotinen.

Ballet School of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet visits Kuopio Dance Festival with Excerpts from the school´s spring performance. Residential Dance Camp for Boys performance examines the motion and movement of departing Artistic Director Jorma Uotinen. Dance schools On Stage concept has been part of Kuopio Dance Festival program since 2011. In On stage events, dance school groups will perform for the festival audience. Kuopio Conservatory is music school, which provides education in both music and dance. Conservatory will also be on stage with Kuopio Conservatory presents program.
