Groups for Dance Schools On Stage have been selected

Kuopio Dance Festival’s Dance Schools On Stage -concept will be held for the 13th time this summer! More than a hundred applications were submitted for the concept, 12 of them from foreign dance schools.

“It was gratifying to see how different choreographies were sent from dance schools and built with different methods. Applications came from all over Finland and abroad, and the works richly represented different dance genres”, Riku Lehtopolku, Kuopio Dance Festival’s artistic director says.

“Ballet was clearly seen more this time than previous years. Many choreographies were strongly tied to time, and in the themes the restlessness and mental burden of the world were very visible”, he continues.

The following 20 dance schools were selected for Dance Schools On Stage:

Dance Schools On Stage -concept has been part of Kuopio Dance Festival since 2011. The dance school groups selected based on the applications will perform for the festival audience.

Dance Schools on Stage -concept is not a competition, but the purpose is to offer the participating dance schools and the audience a peek into the levels and dance styles of different dance schools. The groups will receive feedback on their performances from the artistic director Riku Lehtopolku and the representative of the Finnish Association of Dance Schools STOPP ry.

The concept is organized in cooperation with The Association of Dance Institutes in Finland STOPP ry. Dance Schools On Stage is hosted by Atte Kilpinen, who is a dancer of Finnish National Ballet.
