The Festival 2010 will take you on a colourful journey from the Nordic area to China and Argentina, from classical ballet to contemporary dance and tango. The majority of this summer’s acts, such as smashing Shanghai Ballet (George Balanchine & co) , Julio Bocca´s Ballet Argentino (Ana-Maria Stekelman) and the celebrated Chinese Jin Xing Dance Theatre (Jin Xing / Rubato Dance Company), are visiting Finland for the first time.
The Festival Week will see the broadest overview of dance in the Nordic countries as the leading contemporary choreographers and dance companies of their countries are presented; Cullberg Ballet from Sweden (Mats Ek, Johan Inger, Alexander Ekman), Iceland Dance Company (Jo Strømgren, Lára Stefánsdóttir, Rui Horta), Carte Blanche from Norway, (Sharon Eyal, Hofesh Shechter), Danish Dance Theatre from Denmark (Tim Rushton) and Skånes Dansteater from Sweden with Finnish Susanna Leinonen´s and Jorma Uotinen´s latest pieces. Dance Theatre Minimi (Marjo Kuusela) and Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Music and Dance from Kuopio, Finland (Johanna Partio, Marko Salmela, RaunoTikkanen) will be presenting Finnish dance.
The festival will be opening new doors when Danish Palle Granhøj has his Finnish premiere to Leonard Cohen’s music presented in a church.
The festival week’s extensive programme will include about one hundred performances and workshops, open air dancing at the harbour, dancing and music at the Music Center Forum as well as Clubs and local Paikallisliike- events.
The dance courses will be published in February, off programme in March-May. Ticket sales and enrolment for courses begins on the 1st of March.
